As Minnesota begins to welcome refugee families from Afghanistan, we want to roll out the welcome mat—taking these precious families beyond basic needs to live with dignity while in temporary housing.
About 600 kids are expected, and our community has been given the challenge to meet the toys/activities needs of these babies, kids, and teenagers.
Bring donations to church on Sundays or drop them at Debbie Manning’s house during the week (4517 Dupont Ave S). We’re grateful to receive any of the culturally approved items from the list.
Cultural sensitivity note:
As these are Muslim families, please ensure that there are no pigs or pork products represented in any of the items you purchase (think about farm animal coloring books, Peppa Pig stuffed animals, Winnie the Pooh & Piglet puzzles or games, books featuring breakfast foods, etc.). This is an incredibly important, simple way to love our neighbors—but one we may overlook.
We’ve also established a fund to support these families: first aid items, cultural items, transportation to medical appointments—in addition to items to support the social services workers such as extension cords and notepads. Donate below—select “Afghan Family Emergency Fund” from the dropdown.
